March 30, 2011- Battle L.A.

So this is my blog post and hopefully this will be a good start. I think I will review a movie I saw last night.  Now going into Battle L.A. I had heard a mix of this from people saying it was a great movie that every Scifi fan should see, too people like Roger Ebert ( who I don't agree with often in his movie reviews) calling it  "noisy, ugly, stupid, " and going as far to say that any one who liked this movie is not a intelligent person. My opinnion of the movie was that it was ok. As anticlimactic as that is it's all i can really say about the movie. There were parts I loved and parts I didn't. I thought that Aaron Eckhart, like always, gave a pretty good performence and really got me as a leader with a shady past, but a leader who loves his men none the less. I thought for the most part the acting was fine, I had no problem with the acting. The Aliens though having a few problems( they our supposed to be more advanced then us, but there soliders are useing weapons that barley even match the one's the humans were using) have a pretty good design to them, and really have a intresting reason for attacking, and I thought this movie really stood out from many of the other Alien movies out there. I thought that the affects in this movie were also pretty good, when seeing the destoryed L.A it really gave me a chil, because of the realisim of how L.A. looked and just how disastrous it looked, really all the carange and how the main characters reacted to and seeing them break down so realisticly was one of the big things that keep me into this movie. Now on to my problem with this movie While watching this movie I questioned wheither or not this films Director of Cinematography was purposly going for the shaky, trying to make me puke look or if he had Parkinson's Disease. Many times through out the climatic battle's I had trouble paying attention because the camera was shaking so much. Another problem was some of the plot holes in the script. Like I said earlier these aliens are supposed to be more advanced then us to the point were we can barley stop there air attacks, but they still use weapons that are so weak they really fail in conparastion to what the humans were useing. Many of the characters in the film who are supposed to be main characters arn't really developed well, Eckhart's character is developed fine, and they attempt at a few others but in the long run a few characters die that you really dont feel anything for. I will have to give this movie a 6 out of 10 on the Pierce scale.
